At least 17 people are confirmed dead after a fierce attack was occasioned to villagers in the north east of Nigeria. The deaths have been blamed on Boko Haram, an Islamist group considered to be extremely ruthless. The Boko Haram fighters were reportedly seen killing and looting villagers in Alagarno.
Rarely a day has passed since over 118 people were killed in a double bombing incidence in the central city of Jos. These killings were also blamed on Boko Haram! Obviously, villages in the north east Nigeria are facing a security crisis. Messages from correspondents confirm that insurgents run their operations freely threatening to attack the military if they approach. This makes people living in those areas to be highly vulnerable.
Recent Abduction triggers international outrage
In another incidence, which happened barely a month ago, hundreds of schoolgirls were abducted in Chibok. Chibok is the neighboring village of Alagarno. The heart rending abduction of over 200 school going girls cause a stir the attention of the international community. This disturbing news even prompted the international community to send advisors to help the Nigerian military.
The recent twin bombings
Victims and survivors of the Jos attacks report that the suspected Boko Haram fighters sneaked in the wee hours of the night, disturbing the peace of the night, forcing many villages to seek refuge in the nearby bushes.
Even with the merciless killings, the attackers stayed for over 4 hours touching the building, cars and stealing food from the residents. Reports from one of the survivors claim. These reports confirm that the fighters are committed with their demonic attacks against the innocent villagers.
The twin bombing reduced several building into near ashes. After the incidences a search for the bodies of casualties was launched. Every eyewitness has a sad story to tell. Obviously, the attackers were targeting crowded places like near markets and hospitals. The recent attacks were report occasioned in these areas.
Is Nigeria under attack?
Over 6 cases of attacks have been reported in Nigeria since the start of the year 2014 alone. On May 20th, twin bombings are the latest news that claimed over 118 lives. 18th May, suicide bombing in the busy street of Kano claimed 4 lives plus a12 year old girl. Over 300 residents of Gatomboru, Ngala were killed by suspected Boko Haram fighters on 5th May. On 2nd May, 19 lives were claimed through a car bombing incidence in Abuja. The list continues!
With these fast spreading attacks to the residents of most villages in Nigeria, one is kept wondering where the security of the country is headed! It is obvious that the country’s military force is failing in its duties.
Daunting Boko Haram attacks continue to spread
The brutal campaign of violence spearheaded by Boko Haram is causing jitteriness in the lives of citizens. This Islamist group has previous indicated that they are desirous of creating an Islamic state. However, the recent random attacks of innocent citizens, both Christians and Muslims have been affected. Even with the alarming security situation in the north east Nigeria, the citizens have blamed the government for lack of swift acts of protection.
