Trouble With Conquering Your Childhood Fears? Try These Tips

Whenever they lose control or understanding of new circumstances, children develop traumatizing fears as they realize their sense of safety is threatened. Most times, children’s sense of safety is challenged as they grow up. In the current society, many children are struggling with childhood fears worsened by isolation, violence and all form of harshness brought by exposing them to real time events or watching movies, cartoons and or listening to fairly tales. Identify or help the child identify the pretext
Many situations instill fear in a child. You would want learn and relate to such situations if you are to help the child deal with their fears. Obviously, such situations leave the child helpless or saps on their energies. Interestingly, some of these situations are ordinary or commonplace. If you are to identify such situations then you should be observant of the child and their reactions to various situations. If possible, you can ask the child to identify the situation before proceeding to help them deal with them.

Role play is an important technique to use when helping the child deal with their childhood fears. To succeed in this, you would want to play along with them, understand and appreciate the things they enjoy while playing. While at it, you should imitate the feeling they might develop when faced under the identified pretext. Sometimes, exaggeration of the situation can help the child laugh. As they continue laughing, they would be releasing their fears. The more they laugh the better. By doing this, they will develop boldness and overcome their fears.

Sometimes, it would be useful to stage situations that cause fear in a child. Or, while the situation presents itself, you would want to use it appropriately by extending it. A child facing childhood fears will probably cry, perspire or tremble while the situation persists. Let them do all that as it helps them release the fears from their system. However, you would want to keep your cool and handle the situation confidently. The child will learn from the way you behaved while the situation lasted.

Instilling these lessons to a child may probably be challenging than you may expect. You need to be prepared for the situation lest the child misses the important lessons. You would want to resist the temptation of comforting the child while they are crying. Confidence is an important aspect in such situations. You would want to stay with the terrified child as long as you are helping them deal with their fears. Of importance is letting them know that you will be with them until the end and actually do so. Equally, you would want to listen to them while they relieve their fears. Keeping calm and confident will obviously help them develop calmness and confidence in case they are faced with similar situation in the future.
