The climbers disappeared three days ago, and they might not be found alive. It happened in the Washington state, at Mount Rainier, and the announcement was made by the National Park’s Service.
Their camping gear was found at 900 meters distance from the place where the last signals were picked up. It is assumed that they were caught in an avalanche, but no bodies were found since now.
Who were the climbers?
The climbing party was formed of experienced mountain hikers. There were two guides from Seattle, and some experienced climbers. They were set off on a five-days ascension of the North side of Mount Rainier. The last signal was picked up when they reached an altitude of 3900 meters, in an area named Liberty Ridge.
They knew that the bad weather was coming, but the climbers decided to stick with their program, and to reach the top on Thursday.
The storm swept the inferior plateaus of Mount Rainier on Wednesday, and the increasing level of snow might also have been a problem.
Mount Rainier is one of the most demanding mountains in the world. It is an active volcano that rises 4392 meters above the sea level, being one of the landmarks of Seattle.
