The great comedy legend Joan Rivers has passed away at the age of 81. She was put on life support after under going a minor throat surgery awhile back. Rivers was rushed to the hospital on August 28th when she had breathing complications earlier this week.
Her daughter released this statement after making the dreadful decision to take her mother off of life support:
Rivers began her career as a comedian in the early 1960’s in New York. She was known for her blunt and bold sense of humor. She kept us laughing for more than 50 years, even through the rough times of her life where she had a career that went through bankruptcy, husband committing suicide and getting banned from The Tonight Show. Lets take a look at the woman who lived life through her edgy humor.
In the early 1980’s, Rivers worked her way all the way up to work on The Tonight Show. She would frequently fill in for the late Johnny Carson when he was unable to host the show.
Performing in the same New York clubs as Woody Allen and Barbara Streisand, she wrote lines for a puppet act. She was once asked if she felt bad writing lines for a puppet when she first started out and she replied,”I’ll write for Hitler for $500…When you are starving and got a car payment due? You go through any door that opens, and you don’t know which is gonna be the one.”
Let us all embrace not only the impact she had in the comedy world, but also the impact on how she showed us to live life in general. Showing the world how to march to your own drum!
